My Set Creations
Much of my work has involved creating sets for on-location interviews, often in spaces I wasn’t able to scout in advance. I learned to improvise, transforming available items on the premises into workable set pieces that helped achieve a polished look on camera.
Youth Center

I created this set in the art room of a community youth center. I'm most proud of the inspiration I had to use their art table, in the lefthand side of the frame, as part of the background! I stood the table up vertically, attached the pink and green artistic rectangles with blue painter's tape, along with artwork on the walls from the piles of paintings left behind, arranged the desk on the right further in the background, as well as arranging the desk supplies on top just so, and there was the set!
Home Dining Room

I profiled my dear late cousin, Ayesha, the photographer, right in her dining room. I used her photography to dress the background, along with the actual backdrop she used when photographing her clients–which made the perfect space to showcase her business logo.

There weren't many angles I had to choose from in this space, but I was able to find a great angle, as well as use the wall art with a clean table top, to bring interest to the background.

Sometimes I got really lucky with a room with lots of sunlight and an interesting, colorful background. All I had to do was get a little depth of field (blur) and shoot.
Office Boardroom

I transformed this little area of a governmental boardroom into a clean, upscale looking office backdrop, just by rearranging items located in other areas of the room, and exploring different camera angles to create a more pleasing look.
Elementary School Classroom

By rearranging some tables and chairs while scoping out the best camera angle I could find, and adding a few well-placed desk items on the table for interest, I transformed a busy classroom corner into a cleaner, calmer interview space.
Home Living Room

Another simple, clean set that lent itself so well to the calming person and subject matter that I was filming.
Governmental Meeting Space

Fortunately, it was another case of finding the right angle and camera placement to take advantage of that depth of field I was looking for.
Office Boardroom

Another simple, clean corner of a boardroom transformed into a more casual and comfortable interview space, again, with a strategic use of an alternate camera angle. In this case, I used props that I had on hand expressly for this particular building.
Elementary School Playground

Sometimes all I had to work with to create an exterior backdrop were camera angles, a bit of blur, and nothing more.
Home Entryway

The playful, upbeat tone of what I was filming lended itself to more artistic license in the set creation than I would normally have. So I took this opportunity to use the light filters (gels) I had in my light kit, to give the background a pop of color, interest and depth.
Green Screen

I love when I get the opportunity to use fun, interesting backgrounds working with a green screen. I have almost 20 years experience using this technique.
I love creating art wearing the many hats of production, but I am at my core, an editor.
